Brian Tanguy - Pitching Instructor

The Atlantic Baseball Club welcomes our newest addition to our fine staff of professional instructors. This Weymouth, MA native played high school baseball at Boston College High School. Here he was a member of the 2001 State Championship Team and a Catholic Conference All- Star in 2002. Brian attended Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH and tied the single season record for wins as a Freshman with five. Brian also played for Clarendon Junior College – Clarendon, TX  in 2003-2004. Then transferred to Tennessee Wesleyan College – Athens, TN. Here he was tied for 2nd in the nation in saves for NAIA with seven. Played for University of Massachusetts Lowell – Lowell, MA (2005-2007)  Brian has also played professionally with the Brockton Rox in 2007-2008 and other leagues such as the Cranberry and Yawkey Leagues where Brian has received several distinguished honors as a pitcher.

   Brian is also an accomplished coach and a terrific instructor. He has been at the helm, as well as the assistant coach of several baseball programs both at the scholastic level and club level. He has coached at Gann Academy, RBI Baseball Academy and the South Shore Baseball Club. He is presently an assistant and pitching coach for the 2015 Mariners 13U Super Division Team. Coach Tanguy is available for lessons via our on line scheduling system. 


Ryan Morris - Pitching  Instructor
  
Ryan is our newest member of our fine instructional staff. A Jamestown, RI who played football and baseball for 4 years at North Kingstown High School. As a baseball player, he was named the 2009 Gatorade Player of the Year, Louisville Slugger Player of the Year, Cox Communications Player of the Year and First Team All-State. Pitched and played infield for Presbyterian College for 4 years. Was named a Team Captain his senior year. During the summers of 2011 and 2012 he was the closer for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in the FCBL. This past summer he returned as an Assistant Coach/Pitching Coach for the Sharks, where the team won the FCBL Championship. This past fall and winter he worked in the front office of the Australian Baseball League. Recently, became an associate scout for the Tampa Bay Rays. Ryan will be coaching an 11U Open Division  Mariners AAU Baseball Team in 2015.

Christopher Amate - Hitting and Fielding

Blaine O'Brien - Pitching
Blaine is the younger brother of Terrence O'Brien. Blaine was a 4 Year varsity starter for Scituate High School. Drafted in the 34thAfter declining the offer from the Phillies, he attended  Middle Georgia College where he pitched in the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Blaine transferred to Keystone College in Pennsylvania and as a 2 year starter, pitched in the World Series in Wisconsin. Drafted in the 48th round by the Cleveland Indians in 2011. 

Frank Curreri - Hitting, Catching
 The ABC welcomes this Weymouth, MA native both as a coach and as an instructor for the club.  A 3 year starter for BC High School and a contributing member of the 2001 High School State Championship Team.  From BC High, Frank  earned a baseball scholarship to UMass Amherst and was the starting catcher and outfielder for that Division 1 program. In  2004, Frank played in The Cape Cod League and was CCL all star game MVP. He was also drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks the same year and played for 5 years in the Diamondbacks system.  In 2009, Frank retired from pro baseball with the AAA Tucson club. 
    In addition to Frank's pro career, he was the Cranberry League MVP in 2010,2011 and 2012. Last season Frank coach 2 AAU teams for the Navigators Baseball Program. Frank is married and has 3 children.



Mike Ryan - Infield, Hitting
 Joining the ABC staff  in 2013.  Mike attended New Hampton Prep School and was the first "Tri- Captain" in school history. Mike played football. hockey and baseball and was an All American and All Conference as a Junior and Senior in baseball. He attended the University of South Carolina - Spartanburg and was awarded the Peach Belt Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a freshman and voted team MVP as well. After college, Mike played in several MLB affiliate and Independent League teams. He has instructed with Nomar Garciaparra and Mo Vaugh and has worked several Fielding/Hitting Camps for different venues through out California. Last season Mike was the Head 12U Coach for The Atlantic Baseball Club Mariners. Mike brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm as well as experience to the program. 

Steve Perakslis - Pitching Instructor
Steve Perakslis, Jr. is from Abington and is son of the legendary Abington High School baseball coach, Steve Perakslis. A 4 year starter in high school, Steve led the 2010 Abington High School baseball team to the MIAA0 with a 0.25 ERA as a starting pitcher and won numerous awards for doing so. Attended University of Maine on a full baseball scholarship,played in the Cape Cod League until being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2012. Steve just completed his first full season with the Cubs and played in Kane County Illinois. He worked out of the bullpen particularly in the 8th and 9th inning as the closer. Steve finished this year with a 1-3 record, 7 saves, 44 strikeouts in 58.1 innings of work posting a 2.93 ERA.Steve has been around the game his whole life and wants to pass around what he learned to younger ball players. He has been doing clinics and camps with his dad and in college since in high school. Steve is a great addition to the Atlantic Baseball Club instructional staff.

 

Matthew Henriksen - Hitting and Fielding Instructor

 This Hingham, MA native joins us for the 2014 -2015 training season.  Through out  his college and pro career, Matt has been working with young athletes at clinics and camps.                                                                                            Matt attended and played baseball at Tusculum College a Division II school in Greeneville, TN for 4 years. He graduated in 2013. His college accomplishments :

  • Started at DII Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN for four year as an infielder. In 2012 led the Pioneers to the South Atlantic Conference Championship with a school record 48-10 and an appearance in the NCAA Regional Championships. Won the 2012 South Atlantic Tournament Most Valuable Player

  • In 2013, led the team with 13 home runs, which was second in the conference and tied for fifth in Division II. The 13 home runs were the most by any second baseman in the NCAA

  • Had a .622 slugging percentage for 2013 was also fourth in the conference and 42nd in NCAA II. Finished collegiate career in the top 5 of eight offensive and defensive all-time statistical categories.

  • Pro Experience: 1 season (Alpine Cowboys)  Signed with Alpine Cowboys of the Independent Pecos League. Led the team with 19 doubles which was tied for 4th in the league. Led the Cowboys to a franchise best 51-24 record and an appearance in the league championship as their every day third baseman


Nicole  Messina - Softball Pitching and Hitting
Nicole Messina, is from Hanover and graduated from Hanover High School in 2003. She completed her undergraduate work at Framingham State College in 2007. She has completed a Masters Degree in Education.  
Nicole returns in 2015 as the Head Coach for the 14U Threshers Club Softball team.

Terrence O'Brien - Hitting, Pitching, Catching and General Instructor
 Terrence is a returning member of our fine instructional staff for 2013-14. As an athlete, he played four years of Varsity Baseball at Scituate High School and was named Patriot League All-Star as a catcher in 04’ and 05’, along with being named to the Scituate Mariner and Patriot Ledger All- Scholastic Team in 05’. He pitched and caught for Westfield State College in 07’ and 08’. During the summers of 08’ and 09’ Terrance played for the Braintree White Sox in the Cranberry League. Coach O'Brien began working at the Atlantic Baseball Club last year as an instructor and coached the 11U Mariners.
